Initial Impressions of “Elsie’s Business”

31lpn7oi8tl-_sx331_bo1204203200_I’m about 31 pages into it and I’m already so upset (with good reason). So far, this book is about a Native American girl who’s been raped, beaten, and basically left for dead by three white boys. As you can imagine, it’s difficult to digest, but I promise that it’s beautifully written. I especially love the way Washburn seamlessly interweaves multiple narratives with myth, having them overlap in unexpected and shockingly beautiful ways.

Like I said, I’m only 31 pages in. But it’s so heavy that I needed a minute to stop and reflect.
